Abstract

This triangular microstrip patch antenna is designed to operate on WiFi networks at dual frequencies: 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz (WLAN bands). The antenna uses a direct feed technique and exhibits unidirectional radiation characteristics. Dual parallel slits are incorporated into the patch to enable operation at the 5.8 GHz frequency. Based on simulation results, for the single-frequency antenna configuration, a Return Loss of -19 dB was achieved, which meets the minimum standard of Return Loss < -10 dB. The Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR) obtained was 1.25, also within the acceptable limit (VSWR < 2), and the antenna gain reached 25.6 dBm. Maximum directivity was observed when the antenna was rotated at a 90° angle, with a bandwidth of 1.14 GHz. For the dual-frequency design, the simulation results showed Return Loss values of -14.79 dB at 2.4 GHz and -15.17 dB at 5.8 GHz, both satisfying the Return Loss < -10 dB requirement. The VSWR values were 1.44 for 2.4 GHz and 1.42 for 5.8 GHz, meeting the VSWR < 2 standard. The gain remained at 25.6 dBm, and maximum directivity was again observed at a 90° rotation. The resulting bandwidths were 1.054 GHz at 2.4 GHz and 2.70 GHz at 5.8 GHz. These results indicate that the designed antenna performs effectively across both target WiFi frequencies.
