Abstract

The population density that occurs in South Jakarta raises problems in providing housing for the
community. One of the efforts to solve this problem is to provide vertical residential facilities,
especially for the upper middle class, which is expected to support the economy in South Jakarta.
Vertical residential development leads to convenience as well as the minimization of land use. Things
that need to be considered are health, user comfort, and preventing damaging effects on the
surrounding environment. One way is to apply green architecture to the design of apartments. By
implementing green architecture, it is hoped that it can provide the benefits of green open space in
South Jakarta. The method used in this study is descriptive and qualitative. Qualitative data were
obtained through observation and a literature study. The basic principles of green architecture
applied to apartment design include energy conservation (conserving energy), no negative impact
on the health and comfort of the residents of the building (respect for site), and responding to the
state of the footprint of the building (respect for user).
