Correction and Retraction Policy

Policy Statement

SAINSTECH: Jurnal Penelitian dan Pengkajian Sains dan Teknologi is committed to maintaining the accuracy, reliability, and integrity of published scholarly articles. If errors or issues are identified that may affect the accuracy, reliability, or integrity of an article, SAINSTECH will evaluate the available information and determine the appropriate editorial action. This policy governs the handling of corrections, expressions of concern, and retractions of published articles.

Article Corrections

A correction may be issued when an error is identified in a published article and the error can be corrected without requiring the article to be retracted in its entirety. Errors that may warrant correction include errors in writing, information, tables, figures, or other parts of an article that require amendment to maintain its accuracy. The decision to issue a correction will depend on the nature of the error and its impact on the understanding or interpretation of the article. A correction will identify the part of the article that has been amended and, where relevant, explain the reason for the amendment. Information about the correction will be linked to the original article so that readers can identify the changes.

Expressions of Concern

SAINSTECH may issue an expression of concern when serious questions arise regarding the reliability or integrity of a published article, but the available information is insufficient to determine a final course of action. An expression of concern may be considered while an investigation is ongoing or when further clarification from the authors or other relevant parties is required. The editor will decide whether to issue an expression of concern based on the available evidence and the level of concern. Once sufficient information becomes available, SAINSTECH will evaluate whether a correction, retraction, or other appropriate action is necessary.

Article Retraction

A published article may be retracted if serious problems are identified that undermine its reliability or integrity. Such problems may include, but are not limited to:

  1. Plagiarism or improper use of another party's work.

  2. Fabrication or falsification of data or research findings.

  3. Serious errors that render the article's results or conclusions unreliable.

  4. Duplicate or redundant publication that violates scholarly publishing principles.

  5. Research or publication ethics violations that seriously affect the integrity of the article.

A retraction decision will be made following editorial evaluation of the available evidence and information. The authors may be asked to provide clarification or a response before a decision is made, where necessary and appropriate to the circumstances of the case. Retraction aims to inform readers that the article can no longer be fully relied upon as part of the scholarly record. Information about the retraction will be linked to the relevant article and will explain the reasons for the retraction to the extent that they can appropriately be disclosed.

Evaluation and Decision-Making Process

Information indicating the possible need for a correction, expression of concern, or retraction may be received from authors, readers, reviewers, editors, or other parties providing relevant information. The editor will assess the nature of the issue, the available evidence, its impact on the article, and any clarification provided by relevant parties where necessary. If the matter involves suspected research or publication misconduct, SAINSTECH will follow the procedures outlined in its Allegation of Research Misconduct Policy. Editorial decisions will be made objectively and proportionately based on the available findings. The action taken will depend on the nature and severity of the identified error or issue.

Record-Keeping and Availability of Information

SAINSTECH will seek to maintain a clear scholarly record whenever a correction, expression of concern, or retraction is issued. Relevant information will be linked to the original article so that readers can understand the article's status and the reasons for the editorial action. A retracted article will not be treated as though it had never been published. Information about the retraction and the reasons underlying it will remain available in accordance with the journal's publishing practices and system capabilities.

Relationship with Other SAINSTECH Policies

This policy is implemented alongside the journal's Publication Ethics, Allegation of Research Misconduct, and Post-Publication Discussion policies. Discussions or reports concerning published articles may provide information for editorial evaluation but do not automatically result in a correction or retraction. Each action will be determined following editorial assessment of the available information and evidence.
